2022 As I reached the end of my time teaching at the Habibi Center I was struck by how opportunities in life are oftentimes not recognized and acted upon, bypassing chances to enhance and improve our experiences as human beings in this world. That being said I am glad that I was offered the chance to work with a remarkable group of colleagues and students from all over the world in Athens, one of the world’s most iconic cities. The staff of the Habibi Center truly work as a team, providing instruction to young refugees, mainly in English as a Second Language, but also in other subjects and life skills as well. The students that I encountered at the Habibi Center were eager to learn, adding the study of English on top classes in Greek schools. My time volunteering at the Habibi Center has encouraged me to return to teaching after having retired several years ago and it is my hope to be able to continue to be a part of the Habibi Center community.
