2022 I arrived in Athens in May and the students and teachers at the Habibi Center immediately stole my heart. Habibi Center was an amazing opportunity for me to teach in a different environment and use the skills I’ve learned during university. I even got to teach a beginners’ phonics and early literacy class and taught students how to read, which was the most rewarding experience I did at Habibi. I formed such strong relationships: both with my students and with the other amazing teachers. I learned so much from my students, and their enthusiasm, ambition, and compassion was inspiring. The other teachers are some of the kindest people and most talented educators I’ve met. Everyone at Habibi is so dedicated to each other and helping open doors for our students. I already miss my students and teachers who quickly made Athens feel like home, but I know the relationships I’ve made here will last a lifetime.
